Frequently asked Questions

Q.. What is the weather likely to be like ?

A.. It depends on what time of year and where we are in Arizona, the Phoenix area is generally the hottest place ,when we were there in June & July the temperatures are in the 90s, but we are only there on the tours for a day or two, in December they were late 60s and October they were in the 80s,the Canyon and Flagstaff areas are about 20c cooler and from October to May we don’t run the Canyon tour because it’s to cold. The southern tour tends to be cooler than Phoenix as well.

Q..What type of bike will we be riding?

A..The best type of bike for the tour is the Harley Davidson Softail Heritage, because they so comfortable to ride, they have carrying panniers, a backrest for the pillion and a screen to ease the wind on the rider. It is possible to rent other types of Harleys but we are sure that the Softail Heritage is the best.

Q.. What do we need to take to wear ?

A.. Because we have limited carrying space on the bikes, we will not be able to carry more than a back pack each, easily enough space, one pack will have to be emptied into the bikes panniers and the other one gets strapped to the rack on the rear, bearing this in mind we don’t recommend anymore than your basic needs of a couple of pairs of jeans a few t-shirts a jumper a leather bike jacket and leather bike boots, clothes washing facilities are available at most of our hotels, we tend to throw away pants and socks and buy new pairs, they are so cheap at the shopping malls.

Q.. What safety gear will we be provided with ?

A.. You will be able to choose from a wide and good selection of DOT spec helmets, but you can bring your own if u like but they must be DOT spec. The bike rental shop requires you to wear the helmet when you leave their premises, Arizona state doesn’t have a helmet law, but we recommend you wear them all of the time, we always wear them, and you will have trouble carrying them on the bike as well.

Q..Is there anything that we must have?

A..A set of good adjustable bungee straps, which you can get from Halfords, good wrap around sunglasses for daytime riding, a good set of goggles for evening riding we have fighter pilot style goggles which look really good with the open face helmets, and a respro face mask each for the occasional dust storm, to avoid crunchy teeth syndrome, swimwear and sun cream most of the hotels do have pools. The most important of all your camera.
